Funchal City Sessions is a series of experimental and electronic music events, focusing on sound exploration and electronic innovation. Originally conceived in 2022 as an urban extension of the MADEIRADiG Festival, the sessions present a diverse bill of artists.
Performances span improvisation, expanded composition, ambient music, and textural electronics. The bill includes Portuguese composer Afonso Arrepia Ferreira, who creates electro-acoustic and power ambient pieces as FARWARMTH. Lisbon-based flautist and sound artist Violeta Azevedo will present immersive soundscapes using flute, voice, and electronics. Also featured are Canadian Rifles, the solo project of experimental musician Rui P. Andrade, and Lisbon-based artist Usof, known for exploring ambient music through digital textures and improvisation.
The live concert takes place at Galeria Tratuário, a space for contemporary creation and a reference for experimental music in Funchal. It starts at 9.30pm and tickets are €5.
