Going out in Lisbon

No single platform has the city

If you only check one ticket site, you are seeing at best a little over a third of what is on. Lisbon’s listings are split across at least six platforms at once, and even the largest of them carries only a little over a third of the city’s upcoming events. Resident Advisor’s Lisbon inventory is almost entirely club nights — close to nine in ten of its listings here carry a dance tag — while Shotgun ranges wider, and BOL, 3cket, Fever and Ticketline between them carry most of the concerts and the theatre. About one Lisbon event in seven is on sale on more than one of them at once.

That fragmentation is the reason this site exists. Raydr reads all of them and puts the results on one page, in time order, each linking through to the platform that sells it. Tickets are still bought on the original platform; we do not resell and we add nothing to the price.

The week is short

Roughly two in every three Lisbon events fall on a Friday or a Saturday, and Saturday on its own carries more than Friday and Sunday together. Midweek is genuinely quiet — a Monday or a Tuesday typically offers two or three things across the whole city, most often a concert rather than a club night.

Sunday is the exception worth knowing about. Sunday listings start earlier than Saturday’s, and most of them begin before seven in the evening. If the weekend has got away from you, that is where to look.

What it costs, and what it sounds like

The median cheapest ticket across the city sits in the low teens of euros, and roughly one listing in seven has a free tier of some kind.

By volume the city runs on electronic music. House and techno together make up the largest block of what is on sale, well ahead of pop, classical and Latin nights. That is a fact about supply rather than a verdict on the city — Lisbon programmes plenty that is not a club night — but it does mean the default thing you will find on an unplanned Saturday is a dancefloor.
