Portuguese School of Equestrian Art: Morning Workout
Tuesday, 3 November 2026 at 10:00 · Portuguese School of Equestrian Art, Lisbon · Free–€12
A public training session from the Portuguese School of Equestrian Art, one of the world's four elite classical riding academies, offers a chance to watch horses and riders prepare for galas and performances. The school, a successor to the Picaria Real, is dedicated to preserving Portugal's classical horsemanship heritage.
The session includes warm-ups, music and equestrian choreography, showcasing classical dressage and Baroque exercises. Riders may wear period costumes or normal working clothes, recreating the ambiance of an 18th-century Portuguese court. The performers are Pure Blood Lusitano horses from the Alter Stud Farm, bred there since its founding in 1748 by King D. João V.
This exhibition begins at 10am at the Henrique Calado Riding Hall in Belém, Lisbon. Entry is free, with paid tickets also available up to €12.
